Cathedral Catholic had athletes prevail in five girls varsity races, with Peninsula’s Aishling Callanan and Thousand Oaks’ Atticus Hall producing two of the strongest 2-mile performances in meet history, as the Palos Verdes Invitational returned Friday to Southern California in impressive fashion at the challenging Palos Verdes course.

Callanan, a junior, achieved the second-fastest 2-mile effort all-time by clocking 11 minutes, 28.56 seconds, trailing only the record of 11:03.56 set in 2016 by two-time Foot Locker national champion Claudia Lane of Malibu High.

Although freshman Chiara Bonomi of Cathedral Catholic was second behind Callanan in 12:19.67, the Dons won five of the six other girls varsity races to prevail with five points. Palos Verdes, despite not winning any varsity competitions, was second with 12 points and Peninsula took third with 14 points.

Camille Lindsay ran the third-fastest time of the meet by clocking 12:21.47 for Long Beach Poly, but the rest of the girls head-to-head showdowns were dominated by San Diego power Cathedral Catholic, the top-ranked team in Division 3.

Lexi Arambulo won the No. 2 race in 12:27.13, Alexandria Pena triumphed at No. 3 in 12:30.06 and Keira Rall prevailed in the No. 4 race in 12:39.22.

Only Ella Murray of Marina was able to break up the impressive showcase by Cathedral Catholic, winning the No. 5 race in 13:09.15, with Elaine Hobrock right behind for the Dons in 13:10.68.

Sophia Kisir was victorious in the No. 6 race for Cathedral Catholic in 13:16.73 and Madelyn Basinet prevailed at No. 7 in 13:29.37.

Hall became the sixth male competitor in meet history to eclipse the 10-minute barrier, elevating to No. 4 all-time at 9:57.89. He lowered the Thousand Oaks program record of 9:58.31 on the Palos Verdes course achieved in 2019 by Michael Mireles.

Palos Verdes accumulated eight points to edge both Long Beach Poly and Thousand Oaks with nine.

Luke Stefanou produced the second-fastest time of the meet behind Hall, clocking 10:09.43 for Palos Verdes, which received victories from William Kirk at No. 2 in 10:14.93 and Matthew Farnsworth at No. 4 in 10:50.49.

Luke Larson of Long Beach Poly triumphed in the No. 3 race in 10:40.30, with the Jackrabbits securing another victory at No. 6 from Eric Brannon in 11:14.47.

Baptiste Garderes produced another win for Thousand Oaks at No. 5, clocking 11:02.59, and Cathedral Catholic earned its lone boys victory from Liam Walsh at No. 7 in 11:16.91.
